1. What data Vokabel stores
Your learning progress — which words you have practiced, your review boxes, streak, starred words, and settings — is stored in your browser's localStorage on your device. This data is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data deletes it; the Export feature in Settings lets you back it up yourself first.
2. What data Vokabel does not collect
- No user accounts and no registration.
- No cookies of any kind.
- No analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts.
- No third-party content: fonts are self-hosted, so your browser makes no requests to font CDNs or other external services while using the site.
3. Audio pronunciation
German pronunciation uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis (the Web Speech API). The words are spoken by your device itself; no audio request is sent to this website's servers.
4. Server logs
Like every website, the hosting infrastructure that delivers these pages processes your IP address for the technical purpose of responding to your request and protecting the service against abuse (legal basis: Art. 6 (1) f GDPR — legitimate interest in operating the site securely). We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
5. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Since we hold no personal data about you — your progress lives only on your device — most of these rights are something you can exercise directly: the Settings page lets you export or delete everything at any time. For any privacy question, contact the address in the Imprint.
6. Changes
If the site ever adds features that change this policy (for example optional accounts for syncing), this page will be updated before those features go live.
