What this is
A spaced-repetition trainer for essential German A1 vocabulary. Six learning modes, native pronunciation, encouragement built in. No accounts, no tracking, everything stored in your browser — 1,000+ words across 12 thematic chapters, every one with a hand-written example sentence.
The word list is original, openly licensed content (CC BY 4.0) based on common-knowledge CEFR A1 vocabulary — not derived from any textbook. Use it, share it, build on it: download the full dataset (JSON).
Typefaces: Playfair Display and Source Sans 3, used under the SIL Open Font License and self-hosted — this site makes no third-party requests.
What's coming next
The trainer is fully usable today and free forever. On the roadmap:
- Optional account for syncing progress between phone, laptop, and tablet. Anonymous use stays the default.
- Goethe-Zertifikat A1 exam-prep pack — practice sets shaped like the real exam sections.
- A2 vocabulary as a second level once A1 is solid.
- No ads, ever.
How to get the most out of it
Pick a chapter and run Flashcards until the words feel familiar. Come back tomorrow and hit Daily Mix — the app schedules reviews for exactly the words you're about to forget. Star tough words to drill them separately, and watch the Stats page fill up.
Ten minutes a day beats an hour once a week. The streak counter is there to prove it.
